Watch out, ye who glance upon this post. This time it is not about games! Consider yerself warned…
Those of you who know me may know that I used to enjoy a little bit of writing. It was never anything big, mostly a short story here and there, and nothing I ever released anywhere. Unfortunately, it’s been years since the last time I wrote any form of fiction and every now and then I find myself yearning to write something again. The result is often that I spend a little bit of time putting an idea down on paper only to discard it after a page or two.
Last year, a friend of mine I met through World of Warcraft introduced me to NaNoWriMo; a challenge to write 50.000 words during the month of November. Sadly, I learned about this far too late to do it then, but I’ve been playing with the idea of doing something like that ever since. Now November is upon us again, and this time I’ve taken the challenge! (Yes, I am taking a break from writing, and yes, I am spending that break writing a blog post. Deal with it!)
This is looking to be a text-heavy post. Why don’t I put this banner here just so you have something to rest your eyes on for a minute. coincidentally, if you click the banner you get taken to my NaNoWriMo profile, so feel free to do that.

Is 50.000 words really that much? Well, let’s do the math, shall we? (If you are participating, you might want to skip this paragraph.) There is 30 days in November, bringing the daily count of words to 1667. Is that more of an understandable number? No? Let’s take it further then! In a day there is 24 hours. Each hour has 60 minutes, meaning there is a total of 30x24x60 = 43.200 minutes in November. That, again, means that to succeed in writing 50.000 words you need an average word count of 1.16 words per minute! Does that put things in perspective for you?
Anyway, I mentioned to the rest of Kvasir Games that I’m crazy enough to take part in this thing, and the response I got from Simon was that by my definition, “Kristín and I (Simon) are both crazy, since we’re also doing it.” Apparently there was a group for NaNoWriMo participants from ITU on Facebook. This got me thinking that maybe, just maybe, there were someone else among my friends, family and other readers that also are doing this, and I would love to hear from you if that is the case.
That being said, you can follow my process here on this page by checking out that new widget you can see over on the right side of the screen. It shows how far along I am and, if you know your math, it shows that I’m already behind. Therefore, I really need to get back to writing now.
